This shoot was part of my “40 Over 40” Campaign where I am going to share the stories of 40 incredible women who are over 40 years of age, sharing their gorgeous portraits and inspiring stories and the best practices which has shaped them the women they are today 

In a candid conversation, she shared the secrets of her success and her infectious energy which makes her so magnetic

Sudha: What inspired you to sign up for this portrait experience

Soma: For me exploring myself in such new avatar was one excitement. I knew somewhere I had the attitude but wanted to be sure off. And I wanted my sexy & glam self to come out which probably I can’t do it in my professional sphere

Sudha: How do you balance societal expectations and your personal desires

Soma: First thing I don’t get intimidated by social expectations; I am least bothered what people think about me. So, for me personal desires are the foremost part I always keep me first above everyone. I have learnt that I need to be happy with what I am & it’s fruitless exercise to appease people around you. You can never make everyone happy all the time

Sudha: How do you practice self-care and prioritize your well-being

Soma: Self-care practice is by being disciplined. By sleeping on time, eating right stuff at right time, physical activity like gym or dance sometimes & most importantly trying to be in the present day. There are times I am insecure & then I stand in front of the mirror and talk to myself that I am limitless I have come so far & will have best of everything. I also believe in supreme power & trust his timing so being patient is my core & meditating sometimes

Sudha: How do you stay motivated and continue to pursue your passions and dreams while managing your house, your wok, kids and all the responsibilities

Soma: I stay motivated by hearing people’s success journey, I like to hear to Gaur Gopal Das, Mr. Abdul Kalam, Lady gaga, Priyanka Chopra & many more such personalities from different sects of life. I am in love with my work so work is my passion, so I don’t get bogged down by the feeling of going to clinic or training. I am a bit workaholic too!! Yes, balancing kid & family becomes challenging sometimes, but I have managed. The biggest help I think I have is all these amazing women who work & take care of my house they are the integral part of me & my well-being.

Sudha: What is the mantra of your life

Soma: Mantra in life is to live & let live. Mind your own business

Sudha: What are some of the ways in which you have redefined success and fulfillment in your life after 40?

Soma: For me success post 40 is that that one has to be happy with themselves, it can’t be materialistic success. Happy & satisfied with oneself

Sudha: How do you embrace and celebrate your unique wisdom and life experiences as a woman over 40?

Soma: I look at celebrating women at all ages. One should be proud of what they are. I don’t compare myself to anyone, I just compare my graph from last year to this year, my challenges & fight is with me to get better every year & be happy which is very important

Sudha: What are the 5 most important lessons you’ve learned in life?

Soma: The five important lessons are

Be Honest

Be Persistent

Be Resilient

Be a Dreamer

Be Courageous

Sudha: What advice would you give 21-year-old you?

Soma: I would advise not to be impatient and a rash decision maker
